Other Futures

Circle Talks

Other Futures presents four CIRCLE TALKS in which urgent topics are discussed with participants from different disciplines, removing the boundaries between experts and audience.

The Future of Justice

Juliacks (NL/US) is an artist, filmmaker, performer, choreographer and cartoonist who makes a variety of work ranging from graphic novels to tapestries and a transhistoric installation that reaches into the past, moves through the present and extends into the future. She uses archival material in her research on justice.

Moderated by Chihiro Geuzebroek (NL/BO), a multidisciplinary artist, organizer and trainer in decolonial climate justice perspectives and practices. She is Bolivian-Dutch with Quechua ancestry, born and raised in Amsterdam.

Bringing mammoths back to life? Your brother became a PhytoZombie? Fluid identities, nomad identities, meet in the metaverse. The oracle of ////›››delfos‹‹‹///// gives its last warnings, fake-news? Post-true world? Sixth mass extinction, you don't know anymore with which species to hybridize? What if coherence was only an obstacle, an old and obsolete artifact, which would not allow us to think about identity today? In order to envision and debate the perspectives of our future, come and participate in this collective consultation of the

A performance/talk on the transformation and hybridization of species with: artist and choreographer Rocio Berenguer (SP), known for her G5 conference: the first interspecies conference at which not only people made presentations but also an animal, plants, robots and a meteorite. With G5, Berenguer used a mix of theatre, new media and science to investigate ways of respecting other forms of life on earth.
Middle East-rooted, Swiss-trained and Paris-based Max Mollon, a designer and conflict facilitator who uses design fictions to spark debate. What needs to be dismantled today to emancipate certain futures from the oppression of the dominant narrative propagated by Western societies?

Ancestral Ghosting

This topic is moderated by Ama van Dantzig (NL), who is launching a climate justice movement in Ghana with Dr. Monk. “Traditional knowledge about human relations with nature is being eradicated there in the name of progress.”

Occupying Bodies/Occupying Space

Imagining a Multispecies Future provides space for plural perspectives, poses questions, and (re)visualizes an ‘otherwise’ where humans coexist symbiotically with all imaginable beings and creatures. After introducing a possible image of a multispecies future, participants will be taken on a sensory journey.  What will this future smell, taste, feel, look and sound like?

Moderated by Tessa Wernink (NL), podcaster and co-founder of the Fairphone. She believes that we must prepare ourselves for how climate change will affect our society. This will only be possible if we tap into people’s personal leadership qualities.
