. She is convinced that science fiction can change the world. In her dystopian science fiction novel Lagoon
, a marine biologist, a rapper and a soldier are carried off by a tidal wave. ‘Lagos’ is the Portuguese word for ‘lagoon’ and also the name of the Nigerian city “where nothing works yet everything happens”, says Okorafor in her preface.
