Nnedi Okorafor
"You cannot find a solution to a problem until you imagine that solution first."
Nnedi Okorafor (Nigeria/USA) writes books that combine "politically complex science fiction and lyrical fantasy”, according to The New York Times. She is convinced that science fiction can change the world. In her dystopian science fiction novel Lagoon, a marine biologist, a rapper and a soldier are carried off by a tidal wave. ‘Lagos’ is the Portuguese word for ‘lagoon’ and also the name of the Nigerian city “where nothing works yet everything happens”, says Okorafor in her preface.
