She is primarily known as a physicist and writer of speculative fiction. “No other genre asks deeper questions about the human condition or sets up literary thought experiments about our interaction with the physical world, including other worlds and new technologies.”

Singh conducts artistic and interdisciplinary scientific research on the effects of climate change. She explores possible futures, both in her stories and with her students. In her novella Entanglement, a worldwide network of intelligent robots repairs methane leaks on the floor the Arctic Ocean.
