Opposing 'the story of the Ascent of Man the Hero' Le Guin offers an alternative reading of where we come from and where we are going.

Never being able to associate with the dominant story of man whose history began with the invention of the weapon and tool with which he was able to hunt and kill, Le Guin tells the story of the carrier bag. It’s a story that brings back humanity and humbleness; with people instead of heroes. Put the hero in a bag instead of on a pedestal and he looks like a potato, Le Guin laughs.
